VERIFICATION METHODOLOGY
12 STEP VERIFICATION METHODOLOGY

List Marketeer uses every resource available to produce an accurate list for you. These resources include:

Primary Sources. List Marketeer accesses information available from corporate research firms, publishers, industry associations, directories, specialist subscriber databases and web tools;
People. Though our primary sources are high-quality, List Marketeer takes a conservative approach in assuming they are inaccurate or out-of-date. We recheck them by mobilising our highly-trained database agents to place more than 420,000 calls annually to verify the information. Our quality assessors check their work. Our management checks the quality assessors' work and develops programs for database maintenance and development;
Proprietary System. List Marketeer has invested significant resources into building a proprietary system in which our data is stored, maintained and analysed. We boast a team of specialist developers to maintain and enhance our system. Significant resources have been invested in connecting that database to this public-facing interface you are on now. It's a world first. No-one else has done it;
External Systems. We constantly review new technologies as they emerge. Sometimes outstanding applications are adopted and integrated with our proprietary system to give you a cutting-edge result. Often we learn and improve on these external systems, incorporating them into our proprietary offering.

List Marketeer marshals these resources in combination to produce the following 12 Step Verification Methodology:

Step 1: Update Frequency Policy

List Marketeer's data is fresh. Our policy is to only release records that have been telephone-verified in the last 8 weeks. Older data is not released. Your list is sharp, clean, fresh.

Step 2: Telephone Verification

The compelling difference between List Marketeer and other list providers is that we are zealots for telephone verification. Call us old-fashioned, but we just think names indiscriminately web-scraped by Internet bots gives a bad ROI for clients. Business is about people, after all. So, we invest heavily in highly-trained database agents to call each person in our database. List Marketeer asks for the correct spelling of the first and last name, the exact job title, the precise company name and we confirm the correct address. We ask for the direct telephone number and the coveted email address. If a contact is not available when we call, we doggedly make three attempts to reach the contact at different times. Our commitment to telephone verification is tough, exacting work requiring a spirit of continuous improvement and commitment towards perfection! We are data perfectionists and relish the challenge. We make no apology sticking to reliable, dependable telephone verification. We do this even if, in the short run, it hurts our business because we believe you will trust us over the long-term.

Step 3: Style Guide

When entering information into our database, List Marketeer agents follow a style guide to ensure consistent entry in each data field. The style guide specifies how salutations, job titles, functional roles, company names, addresses, capitalisation, punctuation and abbreviations are written. We also ensure you have compulsory fields set exactly as you want so that there are no unwanted data gaps. These measures produce a neat looking list in which you can have confidence.

Step 4: Quality Assessors

List Marketeer retains a team of quality assessors who audit the agents' work. Most of what they find is accurate. However, when a human error occurs, they classify the mistake and systemically return it to the agent for correction same day. Particular attention is made to any duplicates, number of contacts per company, email acquisition rates, role email addresses, and any non-systemic style guide breaches such as job titles, company suffixes and address abbreviations.

Step 5: Maintenance & Development Programs

List Marketeer management audits the auditors by scrutinising samples of quality assessor work. In addition, management devises and implements a program of regularly scheduled data maintenance to ensure you have the list you need at the time you need it.

Step 6: Job Title Auto-Complete

List Marketeer's system boasts a handy job title auto-complete feature. With 42,000+ frequently occurring job titles loaded into our system, we can instantly check that job titles are written accurately so that your relationship-building efforts are correct from the start.

Step 7: Australia Post Postal Address File

List Marketeer then performs a company name check. When a database agent enters a company name, it instantly washes that name against the Australian Business Register. The ABR comprises all official company and business names registered with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, as well as those formerly administered by each state's Department of Fair Trading. The check includes all company names, partnerships, trusts and sole proprietorship trading names Australia-wide. By doing this whilst on the telephone, we can re-ask for the correct organisational name during the conversation. This added feature minimises duplicates caused by having the same contact entered in multiple invalid company names.

Step 8: Australian Business Register Company Name Check

List Marketeer then performs a company name check. When a database agent enters a company name, it instantly washes that name against the Australian Business Register. The ABR comprises all official company and business names registered with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, as well as though formerly administered by each state's Department of Fair Trading. The check includes all company names, partnerships, trusts and sole proprietorship trading names Australia-wide. By doing this whilst on the telephone, we can re-ask for the correct company name during the conversation. This added feature minimises duplicates caused by having the same contact entered in multiple invalid company names.

Step 9: Email Validation

When our agents are given an email address and enter it, the List Marketeer system performs an instant email validation check. We recognise the special importance with which email addresses must be handled. All care is taken to comply with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). All care is taken to ensure you remain white-listed by your internet service provider and email service provider. List Marketeer goes further by prohibiting verbal email harvesting, the practice of assuming an email format for a company and, with known first name, last name and domain, replicating email addresses without calling to verify. So, in addition to email addresses being telephone verified as with all other data, they are instantly checked by our system's comprehensive email validation algorithm real-time and, if wrong, prevented from being saved into the system. Specifically, these automatic checks:

Exclude email addresses which fail to comply with the Internet Engineering Task Force's protocols specified in the Request For Comments (RFC);
Exclude email addresses with inactive and invalid domains. Our instant look-up feature checks that the upper and lower domains under scrutiny are configured to accept emails, the Mail Exchanger (MX) Test. If not, we reject it;
Exclude List Marketeer's list of habitual spam complainers, also known as protesters, screamers and squealers;
Exclude List Marketeer's database of deceased individuals, our MortCheck;
Exclude email addresses which, though they have an active domain configured to accept emails, do not have the mailbox indicated for the recipient, our real-time SMTP Check;
Exclude email addresses harvested by bots;
Exclude spam seeds, emails purposely placed in hidden locations on a website so that they seed email lists sourced by bots which crawl over websites. You never want to send emails that have spam seeds because it is a red-flag of an illegitimately sourced list. Whatever your data source, we will protect you with this comprehensive check;
Exclude honey pots designed to ensnare you for unauthorised use of someone else's information system. Again, List Marketeer will protect you from data you source elsewhere;
Exclude frequently occurring role mailboxes such as sales@, reception@, info@, inquiries@, plus 273 other examples;
Exclude email addresses which contain spam keywords and are likely to bounce;
Exclude disposable email addresses (DEAs);
Exclude bogus and malicious email addresses;
Exclude any available recipient-specified suppression lists;
Correct misplaced @ signs and invalid characters in an email address such as spaces; and
Correct transposed top-level domains such as .cmo for .com, and .ten for .net.

This is all done in a nanosecond by List Marketeer's system. Years of care and foresight have gone into making these complex checks available to you instantly.

Step 10: Exact De-Duplication

Throughout the data entry process, our exact duplicate check is actively scouring our database. List Marketeer defines a duplicate as the more recent of two contacts with identical first name, last name and company. Our proprietary system prevents such duplicates being entered into our database. It's a systemic protection to keep your lists clean, in real time at the point of data entry.

Step 11: Near De-Duplication

Concurrently with the exact duplicate check and as an added method to clean the data, our system runs a near duplicate check. This process searches for two contacts with one or two character differences in their first name, last name and company, a protection against misspellings and typographical errors. This step ensures your list has no duplicates of a less accurate kind.

So, the most recent of:

Brook Tynan, Chief Financial Officer, Wesfarmers
Brooke Tynan, Chief Financial Officer, Wesfarmers

is prevented from being entered, in real time at the point of data entry.

Step 12: The List Curation Process

Steps 1 to 11 occur before you even log-in to List Marketeer.

At the point you purchase a list, our patent-pending List Curation Process occurs. Now, most of this process is proprietary and therefore cannot be revealed. However, here is a small part of List Curation which we can share:
